We got to fly Qatar Airways for the first time for our romantic escape to the Maldives and we loved every bit of it.
I heard so much about the airline and was quite curious to really find out what the fuss was all about and boy did they deliver?! All I can say is please don’t sleep on this one when planning your next holiday (whenever that might be in these crazy times).
There is so much on offer with this airline, however I would like to summarise them to the 5 reasons you should fly Qatar Airways in my opinion:
1. They Fly to South Africa
Oh well this might sound like an obvious one but let me tell you that with South Africa being on so many countries’ red list, it is quite a relief to find an international airline to cover our route. I personally think is was smart on their part as they have used this opportunity to “pitch” to their competitors clientèle in a way.
2. Full airport services
I have travelled to a few airports lately both at home and internationally and let me tell you that the first thing to strikes you is how empty and grey these airports are. The current global health crisis has seriously impacted many shops and businesses and you can see it right away with many of them being forced to close down.
Being in a fully serviced airport 24/7 was quite refreshing even when there weren’t that many travellers. I don’t know their secret but I love an airport that I can shop, window shop dine or get a massage in during my layover.
3. Excellent customer service
The Qatar Airways staff pull all the stops when it came to service, I was truly impressed with the attention to detail and ongoing support during our entire experience. Few things to note:
- Flexible bookings: rest assured that you will be able to make all necessary changes on your bookings and when they are the ones needed to change you are given prior warning and options for alternatives
- Detailed health information about your destination: this is outmost important as you will be kept in the loop on all that is required in order for your to travel safely and avoid any disappointment
- Upgrades: they constantly have deals and upgrades available, so keep your eyes peeled
4. The Q Suite
The award winning Q Suite is just that, worth every penny. We got to enjoy our own double cabin in Business class with seat on full 180 degrees so you can just zone out for the entire flight (ok who wants to do that:)). There is more: the wine selection is to die for and the food is amazing to say the least. Bucket list ticked!
The Almaha service is a concierge meet and greet service to help you navigate through the Hamad International airport. For an extra fee you get to have the special treatment, skip the queues and be escorted to your lounge and departure gate.
Our lovely hostess was from Tunisia so it was cool that we could speak French so we felt super pampered and she made sure we were all set for our onward journey.
I hope you enjoyed this little recap of our experience with Qatar and if you’ve used this airline, please share in the comment how was your experience and if there any other cool recommendations you have, I’d love to know.
